It’s been six days since the last haul which is a pretty big stretch for me. I’ve been whining about not being able to read my precious second volume of 52 and my whining will finally come to a close. Along with 52, I grabbed a couple other little goodies. Strap yourselves in, this one’s going to be a doozy.

To ensure that this doesn’t take all night, I’ll simply be doing quick rundowns and reviews. I have places to be and people to see. I’m sure you’d probably like to be doing something else as well. Let’s get this show on the road.
To be brutally honest, JLA is exactly what New Avengers isn’t: entertaining. While it pains me to say it, since I’ve been reading New Avengers since issue #1, Justice League is better. It’s got action, great art and characters that are actually more interesting to read about than you might think. If you’re looking for a solid super group comic book title, I’d bank on Justice League of America’s first volume, The Tornado’s Path. Great read. On the flip side, skip New Avengers and find something else. Bendis and Yu, in my opinion, aren’t a very solid combination.
This month’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was better than it normally was, which doesn’t say much, but nowhere near the quality I was expecting from the next chapter in the One More Day arc. While it may have had more action than the recent Amazing Spider-Man comics, it still didn’t really bring much to the table in terms of moving the storyline. Decent artwork and half-decent writing basically made up this comic. I guess we’ll have to wait until Sensational Spider-Man to see where this is all going. This actually ends the FNSM title and to be honest, I can’t really say I’m sad to see it go.
Many people have been telling me to steer clear of anything new with Batman’s name on it but I’ve found Detective Comics to be the only real exception to that rule. The stories are fairly interesting and don’t really require much back-story. The arcs usually only last a couple issues at the most so there’s really no long term commitment needed for the title and, best of all, the art is pretty awesome.
As for the new Atom comics, there’s no Ray Palmer. It’s just not the same.
Black Adam has been a favorite of mine since I started reading the old 52 comics. He’s a super powered maniac. What’s not to like about him? The comic doesn’t disappoint either since it jumps right into the action and doesn’t leave you hanging for three or four issues. Isis’ return takes center stage in issue one and Black Adam’s is sure to follow in issue two.
As for 52 and All-Star Superman, I haven’t quite decided what I’m giving them since I haven’t finished reading them yet. I had a lot on my plate this week so cut me a little slack! 52, so far, has been really solid. As for Superman, we’ll have to wait and see.
