I told you so. I grabbed a copy of World War Hulk: Aftersmash despite thinking some unkind thoughts about it earlier this week. Well, it wasn’t very good. I’m not going to try and beat around the bush. I could have easily skipped this one and just grabbed a comic I knew was going to be good. Oh well. Live and learn I suppose.
This issue was intended to be a cleanup of sorts that would explain some of the changes since Hulk’s rampage on Manhattan. Well, it really wasn’t anything of the sort. It seemed rushed and put together simply to make a couple extra bucks from the WWH arc. Iron Man and his cronies are essentially just arresting the alien warbound when, for whatever reason, some other aliens try to finish what Hulk started by cracking New York in half. I don’t read Heroes for Hire. As I said, I usually read comics that I know will be good. I’m assuming I missed something here because of not reading it. Regardless, the story was unimportant to basically every aspect of the Marvel universe. You could easily skip this title and not miss a beat. It’s a shame I didn’t realize that sooner. The artwork was really the only solid thing about this comic. It was pretty solid compared to some of the stuff Marvel’s done as of late. I’m going to be keeping an eye out for more done by Rafa Sandoval.
World War Hulk: Aftersmash was, in my opinion, terrible. Maybe had I been reading Heroes for Hire or if I were a Hulk fanatic I suppose there’s a chance that I could have enjoyed this one. Sadly, I suggest that you save your money for something better. Trust me, there’s plenty of better titles out there.
