Final CrisisWell we are into Week 13 of Countdown, and I’m losing steam. After following 52, including all the crossovers, I feel tired. When Countdown started I made the decision to not pick up the spin-offs and mini series and only read the core weekly title. With countdown drawing to a close and final Crisis quickly approaching I have the feeling we will see one more weekly book. Frankly, I don’t know if I have the steam to keep up with another book. I don’t think Countdown lived up to the standards of its predecessor, 52. The series 52 was able to stay in line with the content of the rest of the DCU’s Monthly books, while Countdown struggles with the ability to stay in real time with other titles of the DCU. I know the Big Chief Didio said it was ok, but their inability to keep up with some of the monthly books is only a sign of things to come.

They spoiled the end of the Sinestro Corps War twice with the characters of Superboy (It is what he is.) and Kyle Rayner. While many would agree with the boss, I find myself disagreeing with him. I find myself scratching my head, wondering how they could be in two places at once. I don’t think we know where Kyle is in his life at the point he joined the book. He is currently running a bar on Oa with Guy, and there is no mention of his time with Jason Todd, Donna Troy, and Bob the Monitor. Another example is the events of Salvation Run. The events dealing with the on the lamb villains, the green arrow wedding, and the injustice society in the JLA all occurred at different times, leading to some very confusing moments during reading. DC was able to match up events during the funeral of Bart Allen, the Flash, and last year most of the monthly books were able to keep up with the weekly title. I know it is hard to do, but when you do something this big and prove you can do it, when you don’t it shows a lack of caring for the books and fans. Marvel is notorious for changing shipping dates and I know I for one stopped reading many Marvel books because I can’t remember what happened in the previous issue.

Can DC pull off another weekly? I’m not too sure but I’m looking forward to finding out.
