For the past while, Black Adam’s had one hell of time fitting into the DC Universe. He was the ruler of Khandaq and married the love of his life. Things were going pretty good…that is, until he was attacked by the 4 Horsemen which left his wife and brother-in-law dead. He then took his anger out on the rest of the world and was brought down by almost every hero in the DCU. Shortly after this, his own mini-series was released and explained what he had been doing for the past while. With the series wrapping up this past week, I’m left wondering if we haven’t seen the last of Black Adam.

At the conclusion of The Dark Age, Adam seeks refuge in the Khandaq embassy in Gotham City. This is the very same place he’s later located by Mary Marvel in the earlier issues of Countdown. Following a quick discussion with Mary, he hands her all of his power and disappears, possibly never to be heard from or seen again. To me, it really seems like a shame to let a character, who was been getting tons of support by the writers and fans, fade into the background of the company when there’s still so much more that he could do. It almost seems like a waste to have placed him in one of the biggest stories of 52 only to have him disappear a couple of months later.
As a fan of the character, I really hope that we haven’t seen the last of Black Adam or his wife, Isis. As one of the best anti-heroes of the DCU and arguably one of the best parts of 52, Black Adam has actually managed to gather a solid fan base or at least one large enough to support the creation of a mini-series featuring him as the series’ main character. All opinions aside, Black Adam: The Dark Age is a great series and is a must for any fans of the character. The arc manages to tie a number of plots together and draw a little bit of closure to the events of WWIII and to the issues of Countdown featuring Adam and Mary Marvel.
Time to hear from you! What do you think, has Black Adam run his course? Is he finished in the DCU or will he be making a return in an upcoming comic? Leave a comment and let me know what you think!
