Welcome back to the Awesome Arena! Last time, we took a look at a battle between Spider-Man and Wolverine and, according to the comments submitted by readers, Spider-Man takes the fight in a very close finish. It should be noted that, in a fight to the death, Wolverine would likely defeat Spider-Man because of his healing factor and ferocity. This time, we see two distance fighters going head to head in a battle that quite possibly could be too close to call. Let’s take a look at the two competitors and see how they stack up against one another.

Hawkeye vs. Red Arrow

Combatant #1 - Hawkeye:

Background:

Orphaned as a boy, Clint Barton ran away from the orphanage he was living in. He joined a circus and was trained by Swordsman and Trickshot. When he learned that the two were actually supervillains, Hawkeye turned his back on both of them. He later saw Iron Man in action and was inspired to create his own superhero persona. From then on, Barton went by the name of Hawkeye and became a member of several of the most prestigious groups in the Marvel universe such as the Avengers, Thunderbolts and, most recently, the New Avengers.

Powers (From Wikipedia.org):

  • Master archer
  • Skilled martial artist and gymnast

Weaknesses:

Hawkeye essentially has all the weaknesses of a normal person but with his martial arts training and gymnastics, he would obviously have a couple extra tricks up his sleeves.

Combatant #2 - Red Arrow:

Background:

When Roy Harper’s father is killed in a fire, he is taken in by Brave Bow. Brave Bow taught Roy how to use a bow and arrow as well as a variety of other weapons and techniques. After the death of Brave Bow, Roy Harper is adopted by Oliver Queen, the secret identity of Green Arrow. When he was asked by Green Lantern to join the JLA, Roy officially accepted the name Red Arrow and became a part of the team.

Powers (From Wikipedia.org):

  • Exceptional marksmanship
  • Proficiency with a huge variety of weapons
  • Hand-to-hand combat training

Weaknesses:

Much like Hawkeye, Red Arrow’s weaknesses match those of any normal person. Unlike Hawkeye, Red Arrow does not have any formal gymnastics or martial arts training which, in my opinion, makes him somewhat less defensive.

The Fight:

This fight would be extremely hard to call. Both fighters have a very similar fighting style and are both phenomenal archers. I think that actual fight would could down to a number of different factors such as the selected trick arrows used by both Hawkeye and Red Arrow. Another factor would be the close-quarters fighting. While both fighters are trained in some form of close-quarters combat, I personnally think that Hawkeye would take the fight because of his experience and martial arts training.

Result: Hawkeye defeats Red Arrow in this exhibition match.

Hawkeye definitely has the edge over Red Arrow.

Green Arrow, with his extensive training under several martial arts masters, would have an edge in experience and thus may be able to take Hawkeye, but Red Arrow would go down.

I agree. Not to mention, I just really like Hawkeye. :P

Hawkeye…no question. The guy’s just a jerk and I’m sure he’d throw in something underhanded in the fight. They fight might not even last long, the bell rings, Hawkeye punches Red Arrow in the jewels, then walks away disgusted.

Yeah, I’d say Hawkeye for the win. If it were Green Arrow, it might be a different story. Though Red Arrow isn’t that easy to take down, and it might be a bit of challange for Hawkeye.

I was going to have Hawkeye take on Green Arrow but I figured Red Arrow was a little closer to Hawkeye in terms of age so it would be a little more even.

You know what may be a good inter-company fight? Bucky/New Cap versus Nightwing, considering they both trained extensively under arguably the best hand-to-hand fighters in their respective United States..es.
