Countdown - Top 5 Couples In Comics

Well, it’s Valentines Day. Well, it’s Valentines Day. That being said, it seems more than fair that we take a break from the violent, destructive actions that we all love about comics and focus on the love that can exist between two characters…until the editor-in-chief violently retcons it away. Enough of this! To the list! I’d like to apologize in advance for the lack of DC in this list. I honestly couldn’t come up with any more couples from the DCU.

Green Arrow and Black Canary

Featured in several crossover issues, such as Justice League of America, a wedding planner issue and the actual wedding issue itself, Green Arrow and Black Canary have quickly become one of DC’s biggest couples. Currently, the pair can be seen together in the Green Arrow / Black Canary ongoing series.

Reed and Sue Richards

Not even a Civil War could break apart Reed and Sue Richards. They’ve been through more in a matter of hours that most people go through in their entire lives but still, through the thick and thin, they’ve stuck together and kept the Fantastic 4 going as Marvel’s greatest family.

Peter Parker and Mary Jane

I torn by this entry because of the recent events of the Amazing Spider-Man comic. However, after a little thought, Peter and Mary Jane were arguably one of Marvel’s greatest couples at one point. Will they be together again one day? I’m thinking that, if Marvel gets enough angry letters from the fanboys, we might see this couple resurrected.

Cyclops and Phoenix

While this couple might not be a part of the current Marvel universe, I think it would be a crime not to mention Cyclops and Phoenix. Weather it was the vintage X-Man cartoon circa 1992 or in the pages of the X-Men comics, Cyclops and Jean Grey were one of the biggest couples on the team and in the Marvel U. With Phoenix making an apparent comeback, will we see these two together again? Only time, and maybe a Marvel editor, will tell.

Clark Kent and Lois Lane

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that these two are the number one couple on our list. In addition to Superman’s stranglehold on the DCU, he also has a stranglehold on Lois…in a loving way though. A hold of love. No couple, in my opinion, can match the marquee and exposure that their relationship has gathered within the comics community.

Well, that’s it. Get out there and get your Valentine something special and if you don’t have a Valentine, go read some comics. That’s always fun. Hopefully you enjoyed this countdown and, as always, if you have an addition that you think should have been on this list, let me know! Comments are always appreciated!

I’d like to set the record straight and note that this entry was started, completed and timestamped hours before a similar list appeared on Marvel.com.

Seems to me that they’re getting their ideas from someone else…

What about Giant Man and Wasp?
    Gambit and Rouge?
    Batman and Catwoman?
    Doctor Doom and Himself?

All great suggestions. I was actually going to put Batman and Robin as a couple but I think that might have gathered a little bit too much heat. To be honest, I probably could have made this a Top 10. Live and learn I suppose.

    Thanks for the comment Shane!

And Joey Q says your number 3 never happened. You’re delusional.

    I blame Iron Man.

Oooooh… there’s my number one couple - Tony Stark and a martini!

  5. Hmm, yeah, Apollo and Midnighter hadn’t occured to me, but they certainly are an “out there” couple.
