Ever done something embarrassing that’s stuck with you for a while? Well, now we can all take comfort in the fact that we’re not the only ones who have made fools out of ourselves or done something completely stupid and off the wall. In today’s POA Countdown, I’d like to present to you 5 of the most embarrassing moments in comics. Weather it was DC or Marvel, all the biggest heroes have been a part of something that would make the current artists and publishers cringe. Onward to the list!

The Spider-Mobile

In the past, I’ve driven some pretty awful cars myself but none of them can even come close to this monstrosity. Spider-Man was easily at his lowest point while driving this thing around town and, while it may have enabled him to drive up the side of a building for whatever reason or hunt down supervillains at a slightly increased rate of speed, he really should have asked himself: Is it worth it? Does this car actually help my public image? The obvious answer is no.

Superman meets the Quik Bunny

If ever there was a team-up that I believe had a lasting and substantial impact on not only the world of comics but the pop-culture world as well, it was this one. Once believed to be nothing more than a one-track rabbit with only chocolate sauce on his mind, Quik Bunny proved everyone wrong by joining forced with Superman to save Metropolis from the Weather Wizard, whoever the hell that is. I’m sure Superman holds this team-up pretty high on his list of past allies.

Throwing Fruit Pies at People

When it comes to dealing with ones enemies in the most cunning and successful of ways, throwing fruit pies at them definitely tops the list. Captain America would probably be ashamed to be reminded of this moment and, as for Nick Fury, I bet this is one of the major reasons he’s gone into hiding in the Marvel Universe. You can see the full ad here.

Punisher meets Archie

Having never read this bizarre cross-over, I don’t really know the mechanics of how Frank Castle managed to find his way into Riverdale but I’m sure the mere thought of these events still haunts him and I know he’ll never ever be able to shake the fact that he stared in one of Archie’s comics. From what I hear, there’s mention of several other Marvel characters in the comic as well so, fortunately for Frank, he wasn’t the only one tainted by the release of this cross-over.

Batman and the Heroes

You have to believe that if Green Lantern, Green Arrow and Batman had one moment in their careers as superheroes that they could take back and never relive again, it would be this very moment. The Heroes, probably one of Batman’s zany ideas, is easily the most embarrassing moment in Batman’s life. Sadly, I couldn’t squeeze Batman’s catchy lyrics into the picture shown above:

“Block-busting baby, I’m going batty for you.”

Wow. Nothing more needs to be said.

So, that it’s for this installment of the Countdown. Have you got any other comic moments that make you shake your head in disgust or maybe even drop the book you were reading out of shock? Have you ever done something yourself that was perhaps a little embarrassing?

  1. A few points:

    - Oh wow, I Batman and the heroes. That looks so awesome. I would go to their gig any day. :P

    - I think I may actually read the Superman and Quik Bunny team up. Oh gosh.

    - Even Spider-Man looks confused and embarrassed himself.

I loved the advertisement mini-comics of yesteryear! Particularly the ones where Batman and Robin hocked Twinkies. Those were some of the greatest memories of reading comics I have. The Fruity/Cocoa Pebbles mini-comic ads also have a large place in my heart.
