When we last witnessed the action of the Awesome Arena, Ms. Marvel was taking one hell of a beating by Wonder Woman leading to her complete and utter annihilation. In this installment, thanks to the suggestion of regular POA reader and writer of For The Love of Comics CrackerBob, we see Captain America's sidekick Bucky take on the former sidekick of Batman in a battle of hand-to-hand combat...and maybe a gun if Bucky has his way.
Combatant #1 - Bucky:
Background:
Bucky originally served in WWII with Captain America and was apparently killed in a missile explosion near the end of the war. Bucky's body was recovered by Soviet scientists and was reprogrammed to do their bidding. After a return in the newer issues of Captain America, Bucky is released from his mind control and becomes the new Captain America following the death of Steve Rogers.
Powers:
- Skilled acrobat, fighter, scout, and assassin
- Cyborg arm
- Vibranium-steel alloy shield
Weaknesses:
Much like any human, Bucky's somewhat vulnerable to just about anything that could kill someone such as falling for a great height, being shot in the head or in the region of any vital organs that can't be covered by his shield or being severely pulverized by someone much larger and stronger than him.
Combatant #2 - Nightwing:
Background:
Dick Grayson served as Batman's trusty sidekick for many years until, after becoming weary of his role as the boy wonder, he takes on the name of the local Kandor hero named Nightwing. Some versions of his origins explain that Grayson was actually removed or fired by Batman himself.
Powers:
- Peak human level athlete/acrobat
- Exceptional martial artist
- Master tactician and field commander
- Master detective
- Access to hi-tech gadgets and weapons
Weaknesses:
Similar to Bucky, Nightwing does not possess any sort of actual superpowers and therefore is vulnerable to most of the same things as him. Fortunately for Nightwing, his acrobatic skills would no doubt come in handy in the cases of falling off building or from great heights.
The Fight:
With both men being trained under two of the best that each of their respective companies have to offer, this battle would probably be one of the most difficult to call. As long as Bucky was kept as far away from any sort of firearm as possible, I can see this being a long and hard fought battle by each man but, as with all the other installments of the Awesome Arena, it all comes down to you! Who brings home the glory of victory? The former sidekick of Captain America turned full blown superhero or the former boy wonder in DC's Nightwing.
Result: Bucky defeats Nightwing in this exhibition match.

Tough one. I think they’re pretty evenly matched and it could come down to a single minute factor, like one of them having a cold or even losing their footing at a critical moment.
I could see how one could figure Bucky has the advantage, with his bionic arm and marksmanship, but Nightwing’s faced down better marksmen and even further enhanced opponents than Bucky and knows how to neutralize both.
I’m voting draw, because I can really see any fight between them going either way.

I agree. This is probably one of the closest battles so far in the Awesome Arena and would come down to the first man to make a mistake. Although both men are very well trained so it would probably be a while before we actually saw the slip up.
