Wolverine: How Much Is Too Much?

Kastor talked about this a while back but I never really realized how many books Wolverine is actually in until recently with the onslaught of titles coming out of Messiah CompleX. At this point, if you work for Marvel, you have to wonder: how much is too much?

Wolverine appears in yet another comic

I’ve known for quite a while that, along with Spider-Man, Wolverine is probably the biggest draw for comic books fans in the Marvel U. If he appears within the pages or in the general vicinity of a comic, fans will buy it. Rightfully so. He’s a great character to read about. He’s got claws, he’s merciless and is an all-round badass. The problem then arises that Wolverine maybe has too much time on his hands to be appearing in all of the titles he’s currently in. I’d really love to see what his daily planner looks like. Luckily for you, it just so happens that we got our hands on a copy of it. Don’t tell him though. He’d probably get a little mad to hear that we dug through his stuff.

Wolverine’s day

Looks like he’s got a pretty full schedule. Talk about multitasking. With so much going on, I’m really surprised he has any time during the day to do anything for himself. Here’s a quick rundown of the comics Logan’s been appearing in over the last little while. By all means, if I’ve missed some, let me know:

  • Uncanny X-Men
  • Wolverine
  • Wolverine: Origins
  • New Avengers
  • Logan
  • Ultimate X-Men
  • Amazing Spider-Man
  • Wolverine: First Class
  • X-Force
  • X-Men

I’m sure there are more but my head’s hurting just thinking about it all. I understand wanting to showcase their most popular character. Give the people what they want. However, how long will it be until people realize that Wolverine is really in far too many comics for his own good and just grow tired of the character all together? Hopefully Marvel doesn’t shoot themselves in the foot with this idea.

So, Marvel, how much is too much?

To be fair, Origins and First Class both take place in the past, Ultimate is an alternate Universe (although he’s also in Ultimates right now, isn’t he?), and there is no X-Men anymore - it’s now X-Men Legacy, which all takes place in Xavier’s mind and the past.

Oh, and I refuse to acknowledge that Amazing Spider-Man is in continuity.

12:15pm: Go hunting for a deer and bring it to the Xavier Institute to freak everyone out. Eat it on the floor in the hallway and get Prof X to clean up my mess.
