Awesome Arena T.O.C. - Round 1

For some time now, the Awesome Arena has been kicking ass and taking names here on POA but never really amounted to very much. A combatant defeated his opponent and then was sent back to his respected universe never to be heard from again. No longer. The first ever Awesome Arena Tournament of Champions begins today and will usher in the greatest of all heroes in an all-out battle for superhero supremacy. As you can see from this handy-dandy tournament ladder, we’ve got some interesting battles ahead of us.

The guidelines are fairly simple. Voting is logged by IP which means that you can only vote once. However, the more people you tell about the tournament, the more votes your favorite character will receive. Each round lasts one week and is posted each Monday morning. The winner of previous round will be announced and the next round will begin. The hero with the most votes by Sunday night wins the round. Simple enough, right? So, without further ado, let the competition begin!

Combatant #1: Batman

First Appearance:
Detective Comics #27 (May 1939)

Background:
He’s frickin’ Batman. What else do you need to know? Orphaned as a boy, Bruce Wayne dedicated his life to fighting crime and cleaning up the streets of Gotham City. If you didn’t know this already, please leave. I’m just kidding. Please stay.

• Master escapist
• Peak human physical condition
• Martial arts master
• Access to high tech equipment

Combatant #2: Iron Man

First Appearance:
Tales of Suspense #39 (March 1963)

Background:
While in Afghanistan overseeing the operation of some of his company’s weapons, Tony Stark is captured and forced to build weapons for a Vietnamese warlord. Instead of building weapons, Stark uses his time in captivity to build a suit of armor he then uses to escape from his captors and fight crime. Iron Man is born.

• Cyberpathic link with powered armor
• Super-strength
• Flight
• Energy blasts

So, for our first round in the Tournament of Champions, we see the two rich kids battle it out. Who will move on to the quarter-finals and take on next week’s winner? Only your vote can decide. Remember to spread the word and get your favorite hero to the top!
