Panels of Awesome!

Strap yourselves in. It’s time for round 5 of the Awesome Arena Tournament of Champions. In a complete and utter blow out, Iron Fist was destroyed by Red Tornado which means that Reddy will be moving on to the next round to do battle with Thor! As for this week, Booster Gold is gathering his thoughts and preparing to step into battle against none other then the sentinel of liberty himself, Captain America. Wondering what the current ladder looks like? Here’s a peek. As for this week, let’s take a look at the competitors, shall we?

Combatant #1 - Booster Gold (Skeets has been barred from the arena)

First Appearance:
Booster Gold #1 (February 1986)

Background:
A former football star in his 25th century home, Michael Jon Carter is banned from the sport for betting on his own games and throwing the game away to win money. Left embarrassed and disgraced, Carter steals technology from a local museum, travels to the past and tries to make a name for himself. He instead becomes a disgrace to superheroes around the world as he becomes an egotistical walking billboard for various corporate promotions.

Powers & Abilities:

• Possesses advanced technology allowing flight, power blasts, force-fields and enhanced strength.

Combatant #2 - Captain America

First Appearance:
Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941)

Background:
In World War II, Steve Rogers attempts to enlist in the American Army but is rejected. Instead, Rogers is offered a chance to become part of Operation: Rebirth by injecting himself with a prototype formula in development by the US government. The formula, which had failed on nearly every other test subject, grants Rogers peak abilities in terms of strength, endurance and stamina. Captain America is born.

Powers & Abilities:

• Physical attributes enhanced to peak of human potential
• Expert martial artist and hand-to-hand combatant
• Master tactician and field commander
• Vibranium-steel alloy shield

The Fight:
While many would assume Booster the easy favorite, remember that Captain America has gone head-to-head with Iron Man and done some serious damage. His shield is arguably his greatest offensive and defensive weapon which could be used very effectively against a fighter like Booster. Of coarse, as usual, it all comes down to you! Make sure you cast your vote and see to it that only the best of the best is crowned arena champion!
