Thunderbolts Greatest Hits

With Warren Ellis’ run on Thunderbolts coming to an end, it only makes sense that we take a little bit of time to go over a couple of the best moments from the comic.

About this author:

Mike's love for Spider-Man knows no bounds. He is the owner, principal writer, janitor and editor for Panels of Awesome and any of the other sites under the POA umbrella. Fear his rule.

Early last week, news broke across the internet that current Thunderbolts writer Warren Ellis would be leaving the title as of issue #121. With that said, I feel like it’s only appropriate to send Warren Ellis off Thunderbolts in style by highlighting some of the best moments during his run.

Penance lets loose

Jack Flag gets paralyzed by Bullseye:
Revitalized by his sudden thirst for justice, it seemed like the unregistered hero Jack Flag was ready for just about anything…except getting stabbed in the spine by Bullseye. I bet that hurt.

The inevitable battle between Venom and Swordsman:
While the team might be under the control of apprehended criminals being kept in Thunderbolts Mountain, the tension between Venom and Swordsman has been building for several issues. That all culminated in a dual at the end of issue 119. What happens next? We’ll have to wait until #120 to find out.

Norman Osborn’s Breakdowns:
With is past behind him, Norman Osborn looked ready to lead the Thunderbolts team into the future with a stable mind. He also needed a healthy supply of pills. Even then, his mind sometimes got the best of him. It seems like it’s only a matter of time before the Green Goblin makes an a very unwelcome appearance.

Norman\'s breakdown

The symbiote calling out Mac Gargan:
If you thought that Gargan was a wuss, you weren’t alone. Apparently his suit also took notice to Mac’s poor attitude and…lack of killing things. Characters fighting amongst each other is fun but characters fighting with themselves (literally) is really entertaining.

Bullseye gets electrocuted into last week:
After hearing that the coast was clear, Bullseye tried to make a break for it from Osborn and the T-wagon restraints that were placed on him. Apparently, they lied. American Eagle then took advantage of the weakened Thunderbolt and beat the shit out of him. Good times…unless of coarse you’re Bullseye.

Venom makes a snack out of Steel Spider’s arm:
While trying to bring in rogue hero Steel Spider, things became far more complicated than expected. Instead of coming quietly, Spider attacked several members of the team which left Venom with little choice other than to eat Steel Spider’s arm. Awesome stuff.

Thanks for the memories, Warren.

Well, this is a couple of my favorite Thunderbolts moments. I’d love to hear any others so if you’re a fan of the comic and you’ve been reading it for a while, what are some of your favorite moments from Warren’s run?
