NYCC was this past weekend and, as many expected, featured a number of announcements regarding the upcoming schedules for both Marvel and DC. Deadpool’s getting his own solo series, which is great for all the Deadpool fans out there. Mark Waid was announced as an upcoming writer for Amazing Spider-Man, which is great news for all the Spidey fans. Also, Marvel Apes was shown off to the public. Yep, it was a pretty solid convention for Marv…wait…What?!
Marvel Apes? Are you serious?

Oh, they’re serious. Written by Karl Kessel and penciled by Ramon Bachs, Marvel Apes plans to be the “sensational simian mini-series of the season” according to Kessel.
“MARVEL APES is the sensational simian mini-series of the season!” reports Kesel. “It’s four issues of furry fury and feces-flingin’ fun! It’s all your favorite Marvel characters—as you’ve never seen them before! If you only buy one mini-series next October about intelligent, super-powered apes and monkeys – it must be MARVEL APES!”
“You thought everything was already done and nothing new could be created,” questions the artist. “You were wrong!”
I don’t think it was that people thought everything had been done, I just don’t think people ever believed that a big company like Marvel would ever sink so low as to create something like Marvel Apes. Am I wrong? Is this not the worst idea ever? Feel free to let me know what you think about this one with a comment so that I don’t feel completely alone.
For those of you that actually care, Marvel Apes will apparently be making itself known October 2008.
