The pace is picking up as we head into the closing rounds of the tournament of champions! Last week, Batman took on Martian Manhunter and disposed of him fairly easily. What does this mean? The Dark Knight will be moving on to the semi-finals! His opponent will be the winner of this week's battle between Thor and Red Tornado! Wondering what the current ladder looks like? Here's a peek. As for this week, let's take a look at the competitors, shall we?

Awesome Arena round 10

Combatant #1 - Thor

First Appearance:
Journey Into Mystery #83 (August 1962)

Background:
Thor, the son of Odin, is placed into the body of Doctor Donald Blake. Blake, after realizing that he can transform into the God of Thunder on command, becomes a champion of good and a founding member of the Avengers.

Powers & Abilities:

  • Superhuman strength, stamina, reflexes, durability and longevity
  • Flight
  • Energy and weather manipulation
  • Dimensional transportation

Combatant #2 - Red Tornado

First Appearance:
Justice League of America #64 (August 1968)

Background:
Originally created by T.O. Morrow as a tool to infiltrate the JSA, Red Tornado was quickly accepted into the group for several missions before being sent to Earth-1 and becoming a member of the Justice League of America. This is hardly the place but if you're looking for a good Tornado-tale, be sure to check out Brad Meltzer's JLA: The Tornado's Path. It's amazing.

Powers & Abilities:

  • Air and wind manipulation
  • Superhuman strength, physical resistance and speed
  • Self-repair/Healing Factor

The Fight:
It's hard to tell how badly Thor will dominate Tornado. While I'd like to believe it'll be a close fight, my instincts tell me that Thor's going to beat Reddy down in ways that he probably never thought were even possible. Then again, I could be wrong. Like always, this battle comes down to you! Make sure you cast your vote and see to it that only the best of the best is crowned arena champion!

As usual, if you’re a part of the Awesome Arena pool, make sure you let us know who you’ve got your money on this week by leaving a post on For The Love of Comics or on this site. In order to successfully keep track of the points, CrackerBob will probably need to know who you're picking.

Result: Thor defeats Red Tornado and moves on to the next round.

Thor by a landslide. I’ll be back with write up and pimpage etc. etc.

Power-wise, this is probably the most one sided fight yet. Do we really have to wait a week before we move on to the next round?

We’ve talked about all of this in the background, Mike, so you know that I’m going with Thor on this one.

He could use brute force to dismantle Reddy or call down lightning to fry his circuits… I don’t really see a contest here.

I agree. This is pretty much going to be free points for everyone.

On a side note, sorry for the late posting today. I went to sleep last night and left for work before I even remembered to post this.

    My bad.

Aw come on… Reddy rules as Thor is a pussy. I mean he was turned into a Frog once… a Frog!

Least Reddy just become an Air Elemental (or maybe he still is — they never really covered that did they?) of the Earth.

I give Reddy the vote. Thor sucks!

Even if he were to fight in frog form, Thor would still kick the crap out of Red Tornado.

Lol, Frog Thor throwing his mighty hammer would be hilarious.

…Am I the only one who sees the poll as “Captain America” and “Green Lantern”?

No, I see it too…. this is a problem.

    My bad.

I already have the next round set up and, for whatever reason, it’s reading the wrong poll.

Thanks for the heads up guys.
