Okay, before I begin, I haven’t done a post in a long time because I cut my finger pretty deep with a pair of scissors and I’ve got this huge band-aid wrapped around my entire finger, making it difficult to type properly. And I’m not dead. Yet. Oh, and there are spoilers here after this paragraph, so stop reading if you don’t want to know what happens.

Onto DC Universe #0. Was it an excellent read? Certainly. Many great teasers, and of course, I peed my pants once I read Wonder Woman’s section. Anyway, at the end of the comics, where Dan DiDio has his column, I noticed he wrote “The clues and signposts are all around you…” This column also had a picture above the text, and I noticed a whiteboard with some writing on it. On the board, it wrote, “Best woman for the job - a man.” I instantly perked up.

So I reread the Wonder Woman section, and we see Dr. Poison picking up dirt from locations where genocide has taken place, one of them being Auschwitz (click to enlarge the pictures and thanks to Cosmic Sentinel for the scans).

We also see Wonder Woman fighting a minotaur and winning against it. There are two shadowed figures, who are obviously men, watching from some magic portal, talking amongst each other. One says how Wonder Woman has taken so long in her mission (you remember, right? You know, spreading the message of peace etc.) and the other one says that it’s not a woman’s job to do so… it’s a man’s job (OH I WOULDN’T TAKE THAT WONDER WOMAN). And in the panel below that, you see an army of Spartans. Following that is an ad about the Wonder Woman series, with “WHOM THE GODS FORSAKE.” Well, Wonder Woman’s sure got one helluva fight on her hands. Can you hear me squealing like a fangirl?

Though one thing that bugged me - and fans of Ed Benes aren’t going to like this - was Ed Benes’ art on his page. It’s the second page, not counting the inside cover. Oh man… his art - it will kill me some day.

These are the things that bugged me about his art:

• I don’t think Batman is that muscular (he is an agile fighter after all).
• Flash having the same muscle size as say Superman and Martian Manhunter, who exercise their super strength. Excuse Mr. Benes, but Flash is a speedster. He doesn’t necessarily need muscles to run fast (look at the athletes who sprint in the Olympics compared to the weight lifters).
• Superman doesn’t seem to have any shoulders (thanks to the muscles again).
• Everybody has the same face.
• Still manages to draw huge boobs on Wonder Woman. At least her arse isn’t exposed in this shot, nor are any other females’ bums, which is a good thing.

Dan DiDio, being the editor of this comic; I can’t believe he chose Ed Benes to draw a page for DC Universe #0. Yes, Mr. Benes may be on one of the most popular comic books around, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to the best.

Overall, good read. If you haven’t got it, go get it!
