The Awesome Arena continues this week with the 12th round in the Tournament of Champions. In our battle last week, we saw Captain America and Green Lantern clash in the third round of the quarterfinals with Green Lantern narrowly defeating the star-spangled Avenger by ONE VOTE. Wondering what the current ladder looks like? Here’s a peek. As for this week, it’s a full-blown clash of the titans as Superman and Hulk meet for the last spot in the quarterfinals. Who moves on and who gets left behind? Let’s take a look at this week’s competitors, shall we?

Combatant #1 - The Hulk
First Appearance:
The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962)
Background:
During an experiment with Gamma radiation, while trying to save the life of an innocent boy, scientist Bruce Banner was caught in the middle of a massive explosion. Surviving the incident with very little damage done physically to his body, Banner appeared to have suffered no serious side effects to the blast. That is until he later transformed into a massive lumbering beast known only as The Hulk.
Powers & Abilities:
- Superhuman strength, stamina, and durability
- Regenerative healing factor
- Genius level intellect in certain incarnations
Combatant #2 - Superman
First Appearance:
Action Comics #1 (June 1938)
Background:
Born as Kal-El on the planet Krypton, Superman was sent to Earth by his parents in an attempt to save him from the doom which was befalling the planet. Landing on Earth, Superman is taken in by a farmer and his wife and raised as their own son, Clark Kent. Young Clark soon realizes that he’s not a normal teenage boy and as he grows older, he comes to the realization that he is in fact an alien with power far greater than any human being. He then takes on the identity of Superman and battles the forces of evil that plague not only Metropolis but, with the help of the JLA, the entire world.
Powers & Abilities:
- Superhuman strength, speed, stamina, durability, senses, intelligence, regeneration, and longevity
- Super breath
- Heat vision
- Flight
The Fight:
This matchup is sure to be another close contest as both fighters have proven time and time again that they’re two of the biggest heavy hitters that their companies have to offer. I’d give Superman the edge for the sheer fact that he has the brains and the track record of getting it done. He beat Doomsday, I’m sure he could take down The Hulk. Then again, I’ve been wrong before so we’ll have to wait and see what the votes say. That being said, this battle comes down to you! Make sure you cast your vote and see to it that only the best of the best is crowned arena champion!
As always, if you’re a part of the Awesome Arena pool, make sure you head on over to For The Love of Comics and let CrackerBob know who you’ve got your money on this week. In order to successfully keep track of the points, he’ll need to know who you’re picking! Good luck everyone!
Result: Superman defeats The Hulk and moves on to the next round.
