I’ve been somewhat absent over the last couple of days because of an emergency in my family. That being said, I consider it somewhat of therapy to come on here and empty my brain into a couple posts or two. Enjoy.

Where would many of our favorite superheroes be without their trusty sidekicks? They stand by their sides through the think and thin fighting injustice wherever it might form. Shouldn’t they have a little bit of time to be acknowledged? Without further ado, let’s take a peek at some of the biggest and best sidekicks from across the Marvel and DC Universes!

#5 - Skeets

#5 - Skeets - Booster Gold

What fun would traveling through time be without the helpful knowledge and encouragement of Skeets? Weather it was saving the Multiverse from Maxwell Lord and Brother Eye or attempting to turn back the clock and save Ted Kord, the friend of Booster Gold, Skeets has always stood by Booster’s side and helped him in any way that he possibly could. He also likes to make fun of him which is always pretty entertaining.

#4 - Rick Jones

#4 - Rick Jones - The Incredible Hulk, Captain America, Captain Marvel

Where would the Hulk be without Rick Jones? Well, to be honest, he probably wouldn’t be the Hulk at all and this whole mess would probably have been completely averted. I guess that doesn’t really sound like much of a sidekick. Well, while the Hulk accident did happen, Rick has always done what he could to help Bruce Banner and the Hulk in whatever situations that they found themselves in. Is it maybe his way of making up for his past mistakes? Probably. One thing is for sure though, Rick Jones and Hulk are one team that simply cannot be torn apart…unless you’re Jeph Loeb.

#3 - Krypto

#3 - Krypto - Superman

While some might argue that Jimmy Olsen is a much better sidekick than Superman’s trusty pet, it’s very difficult to ignore a flying dog with a cape. Not to mention, Countdown tainted pretty much everything it touched so Jimmy will have a lot of work to do if he ever expects to be a respected part of Superman’s entourage ever again. On the other hand, Krypto is and seems to have always been a very important part of Superman’s legacy. He’s respected by fans as well as the Man of Steel himself for his loyalty and companionship. Take that, Jimmy.

#2 - Bucky

#2 - Bucky - Captain America

There is arguably no better person deserving of the title Sidekick in the Marvel Universe than Bucky. He stood alongside Captain America during the hellacious second World War. Since then, he’s been blown up, resurrected, brain-washed, unbrain-washed, brain-washed again, unbrain-washed and finally given the title of Captain America himself. He’s a well respected member of the Captain America world and of the comics world as well and there are very few characters who’ve been able to withstand the tests of time and character evolution better than Bucky.

#1 - Robin

#1 - Robin - Batman

Robin is arguably the definition of the word Sidekick. Weather it’s DC or Marvel, no character has really ever had the same sort of bond to another character as much as Robin has to Batman. While over the years, the title may have changed hands by going from Dick Grayson, who is also another great sidekick in Nightwing, to Jason Todd, who didn’t really do much and is now floating around somewhere within the DCU, to Tim Drake who is arguably the best Robin of the bunch and finally to Spoiler. The character behind the mask may have changed but all of them shared the same loyalty and spirit that has given them the power to follow and help Batman wherever he may go. For those reasons, Robin is our Top Sidekick in comics!

Unlike most Countdowns, there are no honorable mentions. Instead, I leave that job to you! Think of any sidekicks that should have made it into our list or could even be considered honorable mentions? Let us know by leaving a comment. Excellent Countdown! I would suggest Brain/Monsieur Mallah as an honorable mention, but I’m not sure which was the sidekick.

Best of wishes with the family stuff, man.

    @Crackerbob: Thanks CB!

It’s been a rough couple of days but being back online helps a bit. I suppose being waist deep in the wicked comics from this past week doesn’t hurt either!

    How epic was Thunderbolts?

Kid Flash! (or at least Impulse :P though I guess he had his own sidekick, Max Mercury, who could easily have his own spot here. I miss the old DCU…anyway!) - the only sidekick to actually do what sidekicks are SUPPOSED to do without being retconned - for a long time anyway. Bucky’s doing pretty well as Cap at the moment, but I doubt it’ll last anything like Wally West’s time as the fully fledged hero.
