“Women of DC” Promo Poster

Recently, Adam Hughes was chosen to draw a promo poster for the women who will take prominent roles in the DC Universe within this year which was released at the NYCC (click to enlarge).

Women of the DCU

My first gut reactions:

  • Wow, what an awesome poster!
  • Wait, who are the women on the posters? (I found out, and they are, from left to right, Catwoman, Oracle, Zatanna, Black Canary, Power Girl, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Vixen, Batwoman in the front, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn.)
  • Bit of a shame Renee Montoya and Lois Lane are not there.
  • While we know that Batwoman is a lesbian, why is she the only one confined to pants? Kids, it’s because lesbians wear pants all the time!
  • I’m pretty sure Oracle could afford a new wheelchair. She does have connections to Batman so it is possible for her to have a high-tech wheelchair. Plus one leg is on the floor… she’s paraplegic, remember?

So what do you think of this poster? Yay? Nay? Maybe? Bananas?

Spoiler’s Back? Kryptonite Gone?

Going through DC’s previews, I saw Robin #171 and Superman/Batman#46. I was totally going, “Yay!” One, the return of Spoiler, and possibly Stephanie Brown is being clued in. For the people who don’t know, Stephanie Brown was killed as Robin and was not given an honorary statue, where the other Robins were. Of course, this caused some fans to be angry, especially the feminists, saying that DC treated Stephanie’s death as another woman in a refrigerator. Spoiler has been making appearances here and there in Gotham Underground as well. The Spoiler we’re seeing right now isn’t too keen on showing his/her face, so we’ll see who it is in time. It’s funny how Oracle says “… and a costume hanging in a display case.” Check out the third panel in this comic scan:

It looks as if there’s Stephanie’s costume, right in the middle.

And now it’s time for Superman/Batman. With issue #44 I was really intrigued with the idea of Batman helping Superman to rid of all the kryptonite, and it looked like a really good start for an interesting story. I think a lot of Superman haters would be saying, “Well, his only weakness is a stupid green rock and now they’re taking it away from him?!” Well one, he actually has a weakness to magic as well, and two, this should make for some interesting fights. He shouldn’t go down at the sight of a green rock the size of a pebble. And hey, if they find some creative ways to defeat Superman, Superman haters can now use that to their advantage. Also, I think it’s actually a good idea; kryptonite shouldn’t be available to just anyone. I think the military and powerful figures like Batman and Lex Luthor should have access to it, and them only.

Anywho, those are my thoughts for those two previews.
