The Review
Okay, If you read my last X-force review, you already know I’m rocking some serious wood for this book, but If you’re reading it too, you probably understand my love of it. And if you’re not reading it… get your ass out there and pick it up. Also, the art is Unbelievable! Some comics, I’ll just read the text and briefly skim over the art, X-Force keeps me on each page for a few minutes taking everything in. Mike Choi and Sonia Oback deserve medals for making this comic look so phenomenal.
There are some good twists and turns in this comic that I’d like to avoid spoiling, but one of them I have to say so I can talk about one of my bad points. Sabretooth is back. (I love Wolverine’s reaction to it too by the way) But the problem is, Sabretooth is a clone. Also, there are two clones (Sabreteeth???) But, and I checked Wikipedia for confirmation on this, Apparently Sabretooth can’t be cloned. I don’t know the ins and outs of it but it has something to do with Mr. Sinister trying to do it back in the day. Also, the logic fail I spoke of is simple. X-23 is a clone. There are other clones trying to kill X-force. Elixir doesn’t want to kill anyone. He is told (paraphrasing of course) “They’re clones, they’re not real people!” I bet that made X-23 feel great.
Anyway, Domino handles a lot of the narration and there is also a surprise appearance from a non-mutant character that made me happy. They kinda shy away from Archangel this issue and only briefly mention his transformation. All in all, a really strong issue in almost every way.

Wow, just wow. That is all I can say about X-Force. On an Issue to Issue basis, this run has been amazing! Not one of the issues has disappointed me. Number 8 keeps the streak alive. X-Force is brutal and dominating. I always thought that Marvel needed a team like this. Unrelenting ass kickers willing to do anything to get the job done. something I liked in this issue was the return of Domino. I haven’t seen her in a long time and it was a blast to see her back. My favorite part of this issue was had to be the development of Archangel. The majority of the issue was narrated by him and really served to showcase the turmoil that is going on inside him. Warren Worthington the third is finally part of something compelling (seriously, it’s been too long since I said that. He is an original X-man and the best thing they’ve had for him in recent memory was him nailing Paige Guthrie, and even that was pretty lame.)

However, two very small things bugged me. First and foremost, this title should be on the MAX imprint. Yeah, it is brutal as all hell, but I always lose my sense of immersion when I’m reading and come up on wolverine saying “Now where is the $@%*ing virus?!” If it was on MAX he could just flat out say “Fucking” and seem more immersive. And as for the other complaint, and this is a tiny one that only obsessive music fans can appreciate, the issue opened on Warpath driving down the highway listening to the radio. There are speech bubbles with musical notes saying “What have I become? My sweetest friend, everyone I know, goes away in the end. And you could have it all, my empire of dirt, I will let you down, I will make you…” and then his car blows up. The first thought in my head was “Wait, is that the original NIN version or the Johnny Cash cover?” I know, I’m weird like that. Anyway, the issue ends with an interesting WTF moment.
The bottom line is that if you’re not reading X-Force, you’re missing out.
